kogi state governor escapes stone attack by angry youths

Angry youths in Lokoja, Kogi State began pelting stones at Governor Yahaya Bello yesterday during the Jumaat prayers, according to eyewitnesses.
The stoning, it was learned by Kadibia's blog, is likely connected corruption allegations rocking Mr. Bello’s administration and from growing resentment against the Kogi government for not paying workers salaries or pensions. Kogi residents have noted that bailout funds were made available to Governor  Bello but they have not been used to pay worker debts.
Mr. Bello, who was attending prayers at the Lokoja Central Mosque, arrived to the location in a long convoy of state cars including Armored Personnel Carriers, according to Kogi residents.
The governor reportedly arrived late to the prayers, missing one raqa’at prayer, but was forced from completing his remaining prayers when worshipers inside the mosque began booing and jesting him.
Mr. Bello was forced to flee the humiliating scene based on “security advice” from his aides, according to sources at the scene.
However, when the embattled governor left the mosque he was met by a horde of disgruntled youth who began to pelt stones and castigate him with insults.
The scene erupted when security agents began shooting their weapons into the air to disperse the crowds and firing tear gas canisters at them.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that nearby youths retaliated by throwing the canisters back at the security detail as Mr. Bello cowered from the scene.
Mr. Bello was eventually smuggled into his car and whisked away accompanied by his convoy.
According to an NGO Egalitarian Mission for Africa, the Kogi State government, under the leadership of Mr. Bello, has been accused of looting N11 billion in state funds and not paying its workers as a consequence.

GEJ: I left Nigeria in best economic state

In a recent statement, former president Jonathan said he handed over the best Nigerian government, and the largest economy in Africa to president Buhari.
“I took over a Nigeria that was the second largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $270.5 billion in 2009, I handed over a Nigeria that had grown to become the largest economy in Africa and the 24th largest economy in the World, with a GDP of $574 billion.
I inherited a Nigeria in which the trains were not working, and handed over a Nigeria in which citizens can safely travel by trains again.
I inherited a Nigeria that was a net importer of cement, and handed over a Nigeria that is a net exporter of cement.
In 2009, the richest Nigerian was the 5th richest man in Africa, but I handed over a Nigeria that produced the richest man in Africa.
The former President stated that democracy will continue to grow in the African continent if leaders value the process of elections more than the product of the process.
Even in the 2015 general elections in my country, Nigeria, there was potential for major crisis if I was not a President duly elected by the will of the people.
The campaigns leading to the elections almost polarized the country into Christian vs Muslims and North vs South divide. Most World leaders were worried that our elections will result into major crisis.
Some pundits even from here in the United States said that those elections would spell the end of Nigeria and that we would cease to exist as a nation because of the polls.
That is where the leadership question comes into play. As a leader that was duly elected by the people, I considered the people’s interest first.
How do I manage my people to avoid killings and destruction of properties?
With the interest of the people propelling all the decisions I took, we were able to sail through.
Indeed, we sail through because I refused to interfere with the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having appointed a man I had never met in my life to run it.
My philosophy was simple. For elections to be credible, I as a leader, must value the process more than the product of the process. And the citizens must have confidence in the electoral body”.

Police officers Stops #BringBackOurGirls campaigners from entering Aso Rock

Heavily armed policemen, on Monday, barred members of the Bring Back Our Girls group (BBOG) from entering the Presidential Villa, Abuja, during a march to renew their call on the Federal Government to safely rescue the Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in 2014.
The policemen blocked the Presidential Villa entrance from the Federal Secretariat area, telling protesters that they were acting on orders to ensure that the protest did not turn violent.
The action forced the campaigners to hold a press conference on the road.
The march began from the popular Unity Fountain in the Maitama area of Abuja, with protesters adopting the slogan: "Mr. President! No More Excuses, No More Delay, Decide Now, Act Now, We Want Result". The turnout was huge, as it was swelled by an army of graduates recruited into the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in 2015, but have had their appointments terminated at the end of their three-month induction period.
The BBOG campaigners also called on Federal Government to reinstate them without further delay.
Coordinator of the group, Dr. Oby Ezekwezili, told journalists that the government is expected to help unemployed youths, not create more problems them.
The group expressed regret at what it considers the government’s tepid attitude towards safe rescue of the girls, who have been in the captivity for over two years, arguing that the abandonment of the Chibok girls in captivity amounts to corruption.

End Time: 6 year-old boy beats his baby sister to death for this reason

Police in Florida have detained a 62 year old mother
whose 6 year old son beat his 13 day old newborn
babysister to death after she left her children
unattended in a minivan
Kathleen Marie Steele who previously starred in a US
reality TV show called '55 and Pregnant' in 2011, has
been charged with aggravated manslaughter in relation
to the death of her 13-day-old daughter, also named
Kathleen. Steele gave birth to the baby after being
artificially inseminated with preserved sperm from her
husband, who died of cancer in 2011
Police said Kathleen left her three children- the
baby, her 6 year old son and her 3-year-old daughter- in
the car for at least half-an-hour to run several errands
when the attack took place.
It was learned that while the mother was gone the baby
began crying, which annoyed the six-year-old.
Officials in Largo, Florida, say he then removed the
baby from her car seat before 'flipping her multiple
times back and forth, dropping her on the floor,
slamming her head against the ceiling and striking her
in the face multiple times. After the vicious attack, the
boy put his sister back in the seat before his mother got
back in the car.
Authorities said that when Steele returned, her son tried
to tell her something was wrong with his sister, saying,
“It’s serious.” Steele at first ignored him and stopped at
another store before noticing the infant’s injuries, cops
said.
“I’m telling you this kid’s face was a mess,”
Gualtieri said. “There’s no mistaking the condition
this baby was in.”
The mother didn't call for medical assistance until two
hours later, after she had asked her neighbour, who is a
nurse, for help.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri at a news
conference on Thursday said:
"The skull was cracked in numerous places,
described as probably mush ... one of the worst
things that I've ever seen.”
The baby was immediately taken to St Petersburg
General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The boy allegedly told police investigators, “Sometimes
people make very big mistakes.” And told them how he
killed his sister, according to KHOU.
“‘I took the baby, and I slammed her like this, and
slammed her down, and pushed her up into the
ceiling.’ What he was talking about when he
pushed her up into the ceiling, he was holding her
up, then he said he was flipping her this way and
flipping her that way and she would fall. The way
he was describing it is he was tossing that baby
around like a ragdoll,” Gualtieri said.
“The baby was beaten and traumatized,” Gualtieri
said. “There was gross swelling in her face. Her
skull was cracked in numerous places.”
The six-year-old boy admitted the attack but will not
face charges due to his age. He has since been taken
into care and reportedly has been reported to
have serious behavioural issues.
Steele was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated
manslaughter and neglect. She is being held in the
Pinellas County jail on $100,000 bond.

IPOB: Nnamdi kanu ready to negotiate with FG-Lawyer

Lawyers to allocated leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu says he is open to negotiations with the federal government.
The lawyers who addressed a press briefing in Abuja on Friday said such negotiations can only take place after he is released from incarceration.
According to them, it is impossible for just one individual to commit treasonable felony as Mr. Kanu is accused by the federal government.
The lawyers made it clear that he is not part of the bargaining chip of neither the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) nor the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), who have both said he should be released as part of their own negotiations with the federal government.
The IPOB leader and two others were accused of treason and association with an unlawful society.
At the last hearing, the lead prosecution counsel was absent in court, and the case was adjourned to September 26 -29, 2016.

siasia: We may boycott Q/finals due to unpaid allowance

The coach of Nigeria’s Olympic football squad and U-23 team, Samson Siasia, said on Friday that he will support players boycotting Saturday’s football quarter-final against Denmark over unpaid allowances.
“We have only been paid allowances for 11 days. There is no match bonus. What about all the months we have been training in Nigeria and Atlanta? That’s not fair,” Siasia told Nigerian radio.
Nigeria have been embroiled in one crisis after another during the Rio Games.
They were stranded for several days at their training base in Atlanta before flying to Brazil, and then the players had to beg Siasia not to quit after a win over Sweden.
“We have been disrespected from all angles – by the the sports ministry, the Nigeria Football Federation. Is that how you will treat your own children? We are not street kids,” Siasia said, adding that he had not received his salary “for the past five months”.
“Everything is upside down and the boys don’t want to play anymore. Whatever they want to do, I’m with them. They are right for fighting for their rights.
“I cannot do more than what I have done to get this team up to this level. I have done my best and now I am tired.”

WAR: Army clashes with KAI in Lagos

Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officials were involved in a confrontation with some men of the Nigerian army at Ojuelegba bus-stop in Lagos.
According to an eyewitness, a KAI attracted trouble to his colleagues on Thursday, August 11, when he slapped a plain-clothed soldier around Ojuelegba bus-stop in Lagos.
The soldier got slapped simply because he walked past a parked van belonging to the KAI officials. This ‘innocent’ action caused the soldier to contact his colleagues back at the barracks, who came in their numbers to give the KAI officials a dose of trouble.
The KAI officials reportedly fled the scene when they learnt of the impending danger.
“The army officer quickly contacted the nearest barracks and the whole story changed. Realizing the impending danger, the KAI officers quickly fled from the scene, throwing away their uniform and caps in the process. When the soldiers arrived, the KIA van’s windscreen was broken and tyres lessened. Police officers later arrived at the scene and shot in the air to scare people away.”
